Washing and care tips for your duvet cover

We spend a large part of our lives in bed. A fresh and clean bed not only contributes to a good night's sleep, but is also very important for your health. But how do you make sure you wash your duvet cover properly? By taking good care of your bed linen, you prevent the build-up of dust mites, bacteria and other allergens. In addition, you maintain the quality of your duvet cover, so you don't have to buy a new one as often and in this way you contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle!

To keep your bed linen clean and fresh, regular washing is essential. At the same time, you want the colours to remain vibrant and your duvet cover to feel comfortable. That is why we have collected a number of practical tips for you to take proper care of your duvet cover.

Wash weekly

The most hygienic thing to do is to wash your bedding every week. This removes sweat, skin flakes and other invisible dirt that builds up over the course of the week.

Prevent discoloration by separating textiles

Pay special attention to separating white and colored laundry to prevent discoloration. Wash white sheets and duvet covers separately from colored laundry. Preferably use separate washes or special detergents that protect the color of your bedding. Be especially careful with new, brightly colored duvet covers that can give off in the first wash.

Choosing the right temperature

Preferably wash your bed linen at 60 degrees to effectively remove bacteria and dust mites. For less dirty sheets, 40 or 30 degrees may also be sufficient. This is also better for the environment and extends the life of your bed linen. Please note that you check the washing label before washing, as it indicates the correct temperature to prevent damage to your bed linen.

Use a mild detergent

Choose an environmentally friendly and mild detergent to protect the fibres of your bed linen and minimise the impact on the environment. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents as they can damage the fabric.

Dry with care

Preferably let your bedding air dry to save energy. If you use a dryer, choose a low temperature to prevent shrinkage and wear.

To iron or not to iron?

Ironing is not necessary for the hygiene of your bedding, but it does ensure that your bed looks neat and tidy. Ironing your bedding gives you a smooth and wrinkle-free result, which gives your bed a neat appearance. Ironing cotton is easiest when the textile is still slightly damp. Pay attention to the ironing temperature indicated on the washing label to prevent damage to the fibres. If you do not have the time or inclination to iron, you can reduce wrinkles by shaking out your bedding immediately after washing and hanging it up or making it as tightly as possible.

Sustainability in your laundry routine

When caring for your bed linen, you can also think about sustainability. Only wash with a full load to save water and energy, and use natural drying methods where possible. Invest in quality that lasts, so that you don’t have to buy a new duvet cover as often.

With these simple care tips, you can enjoy a wonderfully fresh bed and contribute to a healthy living environment. Taking good care of your bed linen is not only nice for yourself, but also a sustainable choice for our planet. Sleep well!
